On October 24, 1999, Kim and Steve Masoner started “Save Our Beach.” Living along the ocean and taking long walks, they would pick up trash along the way. They were asked many times if they had any extra bags because people would see what they were doing and wanted to help too. Starting to carry extra trash bags on walks, Kim and Steve realized since there was that much interest in people that wanted to help, it would just make it easier to organize and conduct beach cleanups on a monthly basis, providing trash bags, pickers, and gloves. As many as 500 people show up to clean Seal Beach and the jetty the 3rd Saturday of every month.
